Ginger is the tuberous root of the ginger plant, so it is also sometimes known as ginger root.
Ginger originates from Asia, although nowadays it is also grown in other subtropical climates. Our ginger comes mainly from China and Brazil.
Ginger tastes tangy and spicy yet fresh and sweet.
Ginger is mainly used as a flavouring in cooking. It can be added to desserts, stews, soups or curries.
Store ginger in a cool, dry place, such as in an unsealed plastic bag in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. You can also store it for a longer period of time in the freezer.
Try making tea with fresh ginger and hot water. It’s a wonderfully refreshing drink. In Asia this tea is particularly popular on hot days.
